Man Shot at Corner of Ave. 57 and Aldama Street

The victim was a known gang member, according to police.

A 21-year-old man suffered "serious but not life threatening injuries" after being shot twice on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at the corner of Avenue 57 and Aldama Street, according LAPD Detective Rick Ortiz.

Ortiz, who works in LAPD's gang enforcement unit, said the man was walking down the street when two suspects walked up behind him, pulled a gun and shot him twice--once in the leg and once in the stomach.

The victim was a known gang member, Ortiz said.

Ortiz said the man was taken to Glendale Adventist hospital by his friends, where he was treated for his non-life-threatening wounds.

Police were not able to provide anything more than a basic description of the suspects, Ortiz said, adding that the victim has been unwilling to cooperate with the investigation.

"The problem with this is that the victim is a known gang member and doesn't want to tell us anything," Ortiz said. "He doesn't want to snitch. These guys usually want to take care of things themselves when they recover."

Ortiz asked that any community members with information about the shooting call him at (213) 847-4263.
