The shooting, which left the man's wife wounded, is believed to be random.

From City News Service

A man fatally shot in a random act of violence on the doorstep of his Glassell Park home near the Eagle Rock border was identified Thursday by the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office, while his wife, wounded by the gunfire, remains hospitalized.

James Marcus Howe, 42, was pronounced dead at the scene following the shooting, reported at 10:51 a.m. on Wednesday in the 4400 block of West Avenue 42, according to  Katherine Main of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

His wife was taken to the hospital in serious condition, Los Angeles police spokesman Richard French said.

The shooting was believed to be random and multiple suspects may have been involved, LAPD Detective Harold Dicroce told CBS2.

Witnesses said they fled in a green sedan, he said.

Dicroce said the victim and his wife moved to the neighborhood with their 6-year-old son only months ago and that neither of them had criminal records.

The boy was being cared for by his aunt, he told the station.

An investigation was ongoing.
