Man Argues with Parking Attendant, Argues with Cops, Is Shot by LAPD

A Los Angeles Police officer fired at the suspect, whose name was not released, after he allegedly failed to obey commands.

A man shot after failing to obey a Los Angeles police officer's commands was hospitalized today in critical but stable condition, authorities said.

Police went to the One Wilshire building in downtown Los Angeles at 4:31 p.m. Monday in response to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon, said Kevin Maiberger of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section.

The so-called deadly weapon was not immediately described. Officer Sara Faden, also of Media Relations, said no shots were fired until an officer confronted the man.

Several witnesses directed the arriving officer to the suspect, who failed to obey the officer's commands, Faden said, which is when the first shots were fired. Police did not immediately report what those orders were.

Maiberger said a preliminary investigation indicated the problem began as a dispute between the suspect and a parking lot attendant.

An investigation will be conducted by the LAPD's Force Investigation Division, Faden said.
