LAPD Officers Use Beanbags to Arrest Machete Wielding Man on Marmion Way

Officers are called to the scene by residents who saw the machete-wielding man walking in their neighborhood.

According to a status update posted on LAPD Northeast Division's Facebook page on Monday afternoon, officers used a beanbag gun to apprehend a "non-compliant" man who was carrying a machete near Marmion Way and Avenue 51.

According to the status, "Officers took a non-compliant man with a machete in custody."

The arrest was made at approximately 2:30 p.m.

Northeast area also posted the following on their Twitter account: "BREAKING: 415 Man with Machete, Ave 51 / Marmion Way in Highland Park. Beanbagged, taken into custody."

One neighborhood resident reported seeing the suspect before he was taken into custody.

"I was wondering why someone on my block, Avenue 51 and Figueroa, was carrying a big blade and doing nothing bout it," Michael Angel Acuna said. "I was gonna call 911, but i saw a helicopter and then heard cops, so I thought it was handled."

Police reported that the man who was arrested had allegedly stolen a bicycle.

WOW! I'm experiencing a bit of cultur shock, because in AZ it's not against the law to carry a weapon in public, as long as it's holstered and in plain view. Now, I'm reading comments from people who freak because they see a man "wielding" a "big sword. Maybe they think swords are illegal, or maybe they aren't aware that machetes are sold in gardening stores? No one even stops to consider why a man, carrying a legally obtainable tool, minding his own business, should require helicopters, multiple police cruisers, and beanbags. Are you really Americans? You all probably voted for Obama, is the only reason I can give for this hysteria. It's OUTRAGEOUS! What are you going to do when the s*** really hits the fan, and you're forced to defend yourself, because the police won't be there to do it? My God Man, I hope someone snitches on one of you guys when you stumble out of The T-Bowl, or The Cave, s***faced on booze and tequila, score some meth and medical weed in the parking lot, climb in your car and hit the highway! That is more deadly prenicous threat to Public Safety, than some poor sap carrying a machete down the sidewalk! Damn people. What's wrong with you?

Hi Culturevator, and Merry Christmas to you, too! I just got back from the monthly Church In The City Coalition of Ministers. This month Captain William Murphy recieved our 2012 Leader of the Year Award Presentation. It was held at one of the Stadium Club Suites at Dodger Stadium. (Thanks Dodgers for your kindness and hospitality to the Community of Faith in Los Angeles) I don't know if you've had the personal pleasure of making the Capt.'s aquaintence. He is very personable, and approachable. So, next time you are in attendence at one of our community meetings, may I suggest you obtain his contact info? As I have stated in the past, my feeling, and that of 99% of the community, is that we are fortunate to have Capt. Murphy, and SLO Allen ( Who I met at last Wed's GIA Meeting), serving the NELA communities. I respect your right to oppose my statements concerning the unfortunate incident refered to in this article, but I respectfully disagree. BTW, Chief Perez mentioned Capt. Murphy is up for Commander, so we may lose him soon...This Is A Patch Exclusive! Thanks again.
