L.A. Police Participating in Distracted Driving Awareness Month
Special enforcement operations to cite cellphone violators will take place Thursday, April 8, April 17 and April 22.
The Los Angeles Police Department will team with other agencies in a monthlong "zero tolerance" enforcement and education campaign designed to curb texting and operating hand-held cellphones while driving.

Studies show that texting while driving can delay a driver's reaction as severely as a legally drunken driver. It takes about 4.6 seconds to write and send a text, during which time a driver on a freeway will have traveled the distance of a football field.
