Huizar Passes DUI Test After Traffic Accident in Boyle Heights

The City Council member's spokesperson says Thursday evening's accident involved three vehicles and was minor.

Los Angeles City Council member Josè Huizar was given a sobriety test after being involved in a traffic accident Thursday evening in Boyle Heights, and a spokesman from his office said that the councilman was not found to be under the influence.

Three vehicles were involved in the accident, which occurred at the intersection of Boyle Avenue and First Street, near Huizar's home in Boyle Heights, the council member's director of communications, Rick Coca, told Eagle Rock Patch.

"The Councilmember was given a breathlizer test, which registered a zero," Coca said.

The accident occurred at 6:45 p.m., according to Norma Eisenman, an officer in the Los Angeles Police Department's media relations section, who was quoted by City News Service. One of the vehicles in the crash was registered in Huizar's name, Eisenman said, adding that details of the accident were not immediately available.

According to the KTLA5 television channel, however, the accident occurred at around 8 p.m.

Coca said the three-vehicle crash was a minor one and that Huizar is "glad that nobody was seriously injured.''

The first report of the accident came at 10:28 p.m. in a Twitter message by Alice Walton, a reporter for the 89.3 KPCC radio station. The LAPD, said Walton in her message, told her that "one person was picked up for possible DUI" and that one person was injured.

Less than a minute later, Walton sent another Twitter message: "A spokesman for the councilman denies it was a DUI; calls the collision a minor traffic accident."

So there was a three-car crash and no one was cited? Somebody is at fault.
