County Offers $20K Reward to Track Down Escaped Convict

On March 12, Christopher Lee Brown, 37, impersonated another inmate to escape from a holding area that handles transfers across the street from Men's Central Jail.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors today approved a $20,000 reward for information leading to a man who escaped from county jail.

About 10 p.m. on March 12, Christopher Lee Brown, 37, impersonated another inmate to escape from a holding area that handles transfers across the street from Men's Central Jail.

Brown had been sentenced earlier that day to four years in jail for burglary and identity theft. Brown stole computers from an Alhambra health care facility that contained identifying information about 729,000 patients treated at the health care group's hospitals.

He was being taken back into custody after his court appearance and, at some point, apparently slipped out a door of the Inmate Reception Center. The security breach was discovered during a nighttime wristband count and confirmed by video cameras, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Supervisor Michael Antonovich, who recommended the reward, said Brown was a transient with no known address and multiple arrests for theft.

He was convicted for assault with a deadly weapon in the San Luis Obispo area in 1997 and arrested for spousal assault in the Santa Barbara area 10 years later, according to Antonovich.

Brown was described black, about 6 feet 3 inches and 200 pounds.
