Body Found in Los Angeles River

On Saturday at 2:17 p.m., authorities received a report that someone had fallen into the river from the bridge at Fletcher Drive, about three miles north of where the body was found this morning.

A body was found today in the Los Angeles River in the Lincoln Heights area, authorities said.

The body was discovered near the 1700 block of North Spring Street, about 7:25 a.m., said Shawn Lenske of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Los Angeles police were sent to the scene to investigate the death. Information on the gender and age of the dead person was not immediately available.

More than 50 firefighters on the ground and in the air conducted a search along the river from Fletcher Drive to the Main Street bridge in downtown Los Angeles -- which includes the area where the body was discovered today -- but the search was called off after about 40 minutes. It was not immediately known if the body discovered this morning was related to that search.
