Body Found in Burned Car on Marmion Way

Homicide Detectives are investigating the incident, in which a burned body was found inside an SUV at about 2 a.m. Thursday.

A body was found early Thursday morning in a burning vehicle on a street in Mount Washington, police said.

The grisly discovery was made just before 2 a.m. by firefighters who extinguished the fire at 4859 Marmion Way, said Sgt. Wayne Guillary of the Los Angeles Police Department's Northeast Division.

Guillary said it could not be immediately determined if the deceased person was male or female or how old the person was.

The body was found in a reclined position inside the vehicle, he said. A news photographer at the scene said the vehicle appeared to be a van or SUV.

According to ABC7, the vehicle was a Ford Expedition.

Police also reported receiving calls about shots fired in the Sycamore Grove Park area at about 1:38 a.m., but they are not yet sure if the reports were related to the burning vehicle.

Update: A spokesperson for the coroner's officer told Patch that the body was severely burned, and that it could take several days to make an identification.

City News Service contributed to this report.

There's a hobo village right across the steet...investigators should ask if anyone down there heard, or saw anything...also, ppl use that stretch to sleep in their cars. Believe me, someone knows something.

Heard the shots and lots of weird sounds around this same time. Only a block away from this. Knew something strange was going on.

My instinct would be that it's gang related. The fire can remove evidence vital to solving the crime, and most organized criminals know this.
David Fonseca (Editor) September 13, 2012 at 06:06 PM
That's my instinct as well, but I question why the gangsters would burn in such a conspicuous area? Then again, there are really no inconspicuous areas to set a car ablaze. Many, many questions still to ask. We're working to get more details from LAPD, LAFD and the coroner's office and will post it as we get it.
HM September 13, 2012 at 09:04 PM
It's NOT a conspicuous area. This is a dark street with a trees on one side, a steep hill on the other, and no lighting. I ride bike and go out of my way to avoid this street at night.

Well, I mean conspicuous only in that it is used commonly by motorists--but I understand what you're saying.

Anyone else notice the commercial before news story? Maybe a bar-b-que and meat cooking not such a great idea.
Gma September 14, 2012 at 12:46 AM
Yeah I agree with bobo, the commercial before the video is kinda of sick, isn't anybody thinking or watching. Hey let's put on this commercial of someone cooking a body before we show the news. Well not a body, but common sense, you people trying to make money with these commercials.

frank van neutra lautner September 14, 2012 at 05:14 PM
The timing (close to the usual LAPD shift change), location and methods make it seem about like a planned mafia-style hit/execution to me.
