Three people were injured today when a big rig crashed into several vehicles on the southbound Hollywood (101) Freeway in Hollywood, according to authorities.
The crash took place near the Santa Monica Boulevard exit just before 3 p.m., said California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick Kimball.
The truck slammed into at least four cars, leaving one vehicle overturned and all the southbound lanes temporarily blocked, Kimball said.
Three people were treated at the scene before being transported to hospitals by paramedics, said fire department spokeswoman Katherine Main. All three were reported to be in fair condition.
A witness told CHP officers it appeared the truck driver fell asleep at the wheel, but that has not been confirmed, Kimball said. The crash remained under investigation by the CHP, he said.
The CHP declared a SigAlert at 3:21 p.m., Kimball said. The damaged truck and vehicles were removed and all the lanes were cleared by about 5:20 p.m., Kimball said.
