Armed Man Arrested Around N. Avenue 54 and 55

LAPD officers recover a handgun from the suspect following hour-long police activity just after midnight.

Los Angeles Police Department officers chased and arrested an armed man in Highland Park early Friday morning.

Some 20 officers in about 10 cars set up a containment area around North Avenue 54, North Avenue 55 and Eaton Street after a man armed with a handgun was spotted there, Sgt. Mark Hamer of the LAPD Northeast Division told Highland Park-Mount Washington Patch.

The suspect "ran from police officers—he got away from them—but was located and a handgun recovered," Hamer said, adding that the patrol officers had air support from a helicopter.

The police activity lasted about an hour, roughly from midnight to 1 a.m., Hamer said. The suspect was taken into custody and brought to the Northeast police station. An investigation is underway.
