According to Ortiz, the alleged incident occurred at around 8:45 p.m. on Monday when two members of a tagging crew were confronted while spray-painting a garage near 6100 York Boulevard.

"Some guys were in the garage, and there was some sort of confrontation," Ortiz said. "Somewhere in at all that commotion, someone fired a gun and a female was struck. It was kind of superficial graze wound."

Ortiz said the two suspects were 19 to 20 year-old males who were believed to be affiliated with a local gang.  He was not able to provide any distinguishing characteristics.

He advised citizens to not confront taggers.

"The best thing to do is call 911. Confrontation is not good. Nine times out of 10 they're armed, especially if they're in rival territory," Ortiz said. "If confronted, they're gonna do what they do best, use that weapon."
