20-Year-Old Man Shot Dead on Division Street Monday

Police are asking any witnesses with information to come forward.

Police are investigating the shooting death of a 20-year-old Juan Carlos Alquisira, who was gunned down in front of a Glassell Park residence on Monday evening.

Officers and paramedics went to 3208 Division Street after receiving calls from several witnesses about the shooting 8:20 p.m. on Monday, said LAPD Homicide Detective Ubaldo Zesati.

Alquisiria was transported by paramedics to Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center in Boyle Heights, where he was pronounced dead.

Zesati said officers believe the shooting to be gang-related.

In a Wednesday afternoon interview, Zesati was unable to provide few further details, other than to say police believe Alquisira was accompanied by someone at the shooting who left the scene before authorities arrived.

"We're hoping that person, or any other witnesses, can please come forward," Zesati said.

Zesati said police are seeking a single suspect, who he could only describe as a male.

Police ask that anyone with any further information about this shooting contact LAPD Northeast Homicide Division at 323-344-5744.

Bob, it's not going ot end. This is Highland Park, Cypress Park, Glassell Park, etc... I saw the burned out flares on Division on the way to work 5:30 Tuesday morning and growing up in this area, recognized the signs for what I knew they were. On the way home that same day, I saw what I hope were real DEA agents coming out of The Coughy Shop with assault rifles and tactical vests. I saw no official looking vehicles anywhere and Division was wide open. They were in no hurry so I hope it's because the possible danger they might have confronted did not materialize. I was able to drive by within feet of these weapons. I was not frightened or alarmed at the sight though. I don't mean to say get used to it, because we shouldn't ever. Just stating how it is. Frank obviously knows this too. Though the deceased is unknown to myself, I too wish him rest in peace.

20 years spent raising a child and @ 8.30pm.... 3 shots end that devotion. America's a fruit rotten before ripe whilst the NRA continue to pump funds into lobbying, prisons outnumber schools and our taxes fuel illegal wars. The only thing that threatens present day America is it's future. It's not the youth that should be pathologized , rather it's the systems that are currently in place. Oh, and while i'm at it.... Monsanto can kiss my ass. Vote Yes on Prop 37 !

I miss talking to him already. Say what you will about the whole situation but he was truly a good person. No one is perfect and we all go through things. He was never a negative person towards me. So before certain people start judging him just think about he was human just like all of us so have respect for us who are in times of sorrow. Keep all your negativity to yourself. Rest in peace Carlos and thank you for giving me the privilege to have spoken to you and to have shared moments with you. I miss you very dearly.
