The Puppy Chronicles: Mac's Will to Persevere

Little Mac is recovering well, but he's on his way to having surgery.

The response from this blog has been great.  Little Mac is doing well.  He's adjusted to hobbling around on three legs and made himself home.

Mac's leg and pelvis were re-examined by the vet and the fractures are far more severe than initially diagnosed.  Tomorrow, Mac will head into surgery to add some pins and plates to ensure that he'll heal properly.

The outpouring of support from friends, coworkers, neighbors, and strangers has been overhwelming.  It is truly uplifting.  We are still collecting donations to raise money for his surgery at Chipin.com.

Mac is one of the sweetest dogs I've ever met.  He loves snuggling, he's calm and quiet and loves to be loved.  When I found him in the middle of the street; I wasn't sure if he was going to survive, but luckily, this pup has a will to live and we hope he'll have as normal a life as he would have before the accident.

Like many dogs in our neighborhood, Mac didn't have a collar, a tag or a chip.   There are many dogs in the neighborhood that run freely through the streets without any identification.  The chances of something similar happening to those dogs is frightening.  I'm sure many of these dogs are just as sweet as Mac and have great personalities.  I just hope it doesn't take another accident to save some of them from a similar fate.

If you have a dog and haven't had them chipped or have a tag on them, you can get tags made at your local pet store for only a few dollars and dogs can be microchipped for little-to-no cost through various organizations, like spcaLA or Los Angeles County.  To help identify dogs, they must be registered and licensed with the city of Los Angeles.
