The Wall Las Memorias to Host Transit Village Forum

The forum is hoping to hear Council District 1's response to the proposed development.

Residents have had several opportunities to speak to developers McCormack, Baron, Salazar (MBS) about their proposed Highland Park Transit Village development, but one community organization is looking for some accountability from Council District 1.

The Wall Las Memorias, a local HIV/AIDS Outreach Organization located on Avenue 56, will host a community forum on Tuesday, April 16 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Iglesia de la Comunidad 115 North Ave. 53. Representatives from both MBS and Council District 1 have been invited to attend.

Jessica Perez, a community organizer with The Wall Las Memorias, said she's attended several Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council meetings where residents have expressed concern about the proposed housing development, which would occupy three LADOT owned parking lots between Avenues 56 and 59 behind North Figueroa Street.

Perez said that the council district was better suited to address concerns about the project potentially monopolizing public parking spots, stressing the neighborhood's utilities infrastructure and compromising safety.

"The developer doesn't have a lot of control other than determining what the project looks like," Perez said.

So far, nobody from Council District 1 has committed to attend the meeting.
