A man police have described as a known gang member in his early 20s was shot to death in Highland Park Friday morning by someone armed with a shotgun.
The shooting in the 200 block of North Avenue 55, near North Figueroa Street, was reported at 12:50 a.m., said Sargeant Lisa Phillips of the Los Angeles Police Department's Northeast Station.
The victim was in an alley when the shooter, who is believed to be a male, walked up, opened fire and fled on foot, Phillips said.
The man suffered a neck wound from a single shotgun blast and was pronounced dead at the scene, she said. No description of the gunman was immediately available.
