Local Photos: Endeavour Flies Over Highland Park and Mount Washington

Angelenos were inspired to post thousands of photographs through social media on Friday, including many taken in Highland Park.

After 20 years of testing the galaxy and the limits of human imagination and ingenuity, the NASA Space Shuttle Endeavour took its final flight on Friday, Sept. 21.

It's final tour was less grand in scope than its previous NASA expeditions, but it was nevertheless a spectatcle that captivated Highland Park residents who took the opportunity to frame the modern marvel against a local backdrop.

I photographed it from my rooftop near Franklin High and wrote it up on my blog: http://bit.ly/PvNoLA. I love how it seems like all of L.A. came out to see it!

The unbridled sounds of joy and enthusiasm from the children at Aldama Elementary were every bit as exciting and uplifting as seeing the shuttle.

"unbridled sounds of joy and enthusiasm," VERY well put, Mrs. Schraff. It truly was a magical moment.

Did anyone catch the V-22 Osprey that flew over HLP on Sunday from somewhere between 1-3pm? I had no idea they were horrifyingly huge.

I did not see this, Frank. Curious if anyone else did.

I will try to get a picture. I was going to run for my camera (without memory card so I would have failed) when my friend Quick Draw pulled out his dslr... not sure if he got it though. Back in Feb-Mar a gaggle of Super Cobras passed through... like a dozen and a half! I could almost hear Wagner.
