High Winds Will Blow Through Highland Park-Mount Washington Into Monday Evening

Gusts of 80 mph are expected in local mountains.

Wind gusts of up to 25 mph were already blowing through the Highland Park-Mount Washington area on Monday afternoon, and the National Weather is predicting that they'll become ever stronger as the day progresses.

Meteorologists are forecasting gusts of 80 mph in local mountains, 70 mph in the Antelope Valley and 60 mph in the Santa Clarita and San Fernando valleys.

"All other locations can expect wind gusts of 40 to 45 mph,'' according
to a National Weather Service advisory, which said that in most areas, the
winds will peak in strength this afternoon and persist through late tonight.

"These strong winds will likely cause power outages and possibly some
property damage,'' the National Weather Service advisory warned.

Mount Washington is no stranger to high winds. In December of 2011, a California Department of Water Resources weather station recorded gusts of up to 101 mph on the hill.
