Block Party to Raise Awareness for Glassell Park Pool

The event will features games, music and informational resources.

Glassell Park residents who this summer formed an organization to save their local pool from closure will on Sunday, Nov. 18 hold a community block party to raise awareness for their cause.

The Save Glassell Park Pool Block Party will be held from noon until 5 p.m. between 3750 and 3650 Verdugo Road.

The pool was slated to closed last August as the city looked to trim a massive budget deficit. However, community members spoke out loudly against the closure, eventually convincing Los Angeles City Council Members Eric Garcetti and Tom LaBonge to help keep the pool open while funding was sought to maintain its year-round status.

"Taking away the pool from the community would be devastating," said Maggie Darrett-Quiroz, a lifelong Glassell Park resident who believes the pool has positive health benefits for the working class community.

The event is block party is free to the public and not a fundraiser, Darrett-Quiroz said.

"The object is to raise awareness about the pool and to have some fun," she siad.

Sponsors include Councilmen Ed Reyes, Jose Huizar and Garcetti.

Church members want peace and quiet in their own homes but the freedom to force religion on others.Read More And, they want the freedom to force noise into other people's homes. Anyone from Divine Saviour want some noise forced into their home like some banging metal pans?

Jesse is fine. He is campaining for Cedilllo. Neither have ran away. Both have appreciated myRead More help in campaining for Cedillo. His eyeliner must have faded away. All that matters is that he will do more than "no way, Jose" has done in 12 years with "do nothing, Ed Reyes." My problem is not with bells, it is with the noise (amplified sound) from Divine Saviour Catholic Church. You need to get your facts straight. Noise is a mental issue. Divine Saviour Catholic Church is the one with a mental issue. They are hypocrites that they want to force noise on others then they themselves want peace and quiet. Get the facts.
