Gourmet Restaurant Among Suitors for Verdugo Pet Shop Property

Bidders are showing interest, despite expensive rent.

The new owners of the Verdugo Pet Shop property on York Boulevard said they are hoping to complement the "rebirth" currently taking place in the area.

"The use is going to be something that will complement the community," said Robert Bonanomi, Vice President of leasing agent CBRE. "There's a rebirth going on in the area, and our goal is to complement that."

Some proposals have already started to pour in.

"We've heard from both retail and restaurants," Bonanomi said. "We're talking sit-down, gourmet restaurants."

According to a recent report on the EastsiderLA, the property is listing for $8,000 per month--a sign of York Boulevard's growing cachet.

Bonanomi said the rent was indicative of the heightened interest in York Boulevard.

"The price is commensurate," Bonanomi said. "It's not going to be difficult to rent the property."

The Verdugo Pet Shop closed its doors in February of 2011, following the death of longtime owner Hervey Chapman.
