Best Market in the Neighborhood Winner Is ...

It was a close race throughout, but one market stood out above the rest.

After nearly 300 votes, a dozen reviews left in Patch's directory and one deadline extension, readers have selected as the best in the neighborhood.

Fresco earned a total of 122 votes, edging out tough competition from which earned 84 votes.

The competition also saw a strong push by . Though falling behind in the poll in the final hours, La Tropicana earned 7 perfect ratings in Patch's directory.

Ultimately, though, it was Fresco who prevailed, with customers applauding their service, selection and friendly environment.

"We are so lucky to have this grocery store in our neighborhood," said reader Jill Jensen in her 5-star review of the market. "It is a high-end quality market with all the staples, gorgeous produce and meats, a nice selection of wines, and a helpful staff."

Readers also noted in Fresco's hiring practices in their positive comments about the market. Through the Fresco Community Foundation, the market hires formerly homeless residents of the L.A. Mission through the "Work Start" program.
