BBQ Restaurant to Open in Eagle Rock Where Pot Shop Used to be

Max City BBQ, a family owned Mt. Washington catering business, has launched a Kickstarter to raise funds for the upcoming restaurant.

An Eagle Rock Boulevard storefront that housed a medical marijuana dispensary until a citywide federal crackdown forced it to close last year is set to become a barbecue restaurant shortly.

Called Max City BBQ, the upcoming restaurant will be located at 4729 Eagle Rock Blvd., where Eagle Rock Herbal Collective once was. A liquor store is located next to the former pot shop, which was robbed in 2011.

Max City BBQ is currently a family owned catering business that operates from a home in Mount Washington and specializes in “smoked chicken, pulled pork, rib, brisket and all the fixings,” according to its website.

Well-reviewed on Yelp, the upcoming store has launched a Kickstarter to raise money to finish construction on the new restaurant. The restaurant is close to its goal, with less than 48 hours left, and needs all the help it can get to raise all the funds it can.

And the upcoming venture is already creating quite a buzz on Eagle Rock Boulevard. When Patch visited the location Tuesday to take the attached photograph, about half-a-dozen men who milling around the storefront were excited about the news and wanted to know more.
