Officer Doing Fine After Crash During Chase

Authorities were reportedly chasing a man and woman in a stolen car, one suspect fled officers.

A Northeast Division officer received mild injuries after crashing his patrol car while responding to a foot chase in Highland Park early Saturday.

The driver of the alleged stolen car evaded officers, while his female companion was arrested, police said. The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. in the area of Avenue 47 and Interstate 110 freeway. An officer traced the license plate of the 2012 Ford Mustang and learned the car was reported stolen, said Lieutenant Sanford Rosenberg.

The suspect vehicle stopped and the man fled on foot. More officers arrived and one officer lost control and crashed into a metal gate. The officer was treated at the scene and released. The Mustang was described as a rental vehicle and not from the area, Rosenberg said.

A description of the male suspect was not immediately available, but was described as a known gang member from the area. An investigation is ongoing.
