Gallery Spotlight: The Glass Studio Features Student Made Creations (Video)

To prepare our readers for Second Saturday Gallery night, we spoke to Cathi Milligan, owner of the Glass Studio on York Boulevard.

In advance of Second Saturday Gallery Night, scheduled for Saturday, April 9, Highland Park-Mount Washington Patch caught up with Cathi Milligan, owner of on York Boulevard.

In the above video, Milligan talks about her current exhibit, which features glass pieces created by students from Wilson Middle School in Pasadena and Jonathan Muir High School in Altadena in cooperation with the Light Bringer Project and the international arts program Room 13.

Milligan provided the instructors at the Light Bringer Project with "glass, some parameters and a deadline," which resulted in the student made creations that now fill her studio.

The exhibit is scheduled to close on Saturday night, Milligan said.

Among Milligan's favorite pieces is one created by Muir High School student Jazzimine Green, who incorporates mosaic techniques and glass painting into her creation.

"I think she's got an art career ahead of her because it's really, really wonderful," Milligan said of Green.

Milligan said she hopes to exhibit work by students in the near future.

Milligan also spoke about some upcoming exhibits that will be shown at the Glass Studio and shared why she loves Second Saturday Gallery Night so much.

"It gives the community an opportunity to meet the galleries, see our stores. I have classes and supplies that are glass oriented, and this gives me a chance to educate the public about that," she said. "The Glass Studio is a place to learn about glass. I always say, 'come learn about glass.'"
