Secret Songs return to Highland Park tonight (Friday, July 27) as Los Angeles-based acts Dorian Wood, Princess Pangolin and Many Distant Cities will play inside
The monthly concert event, held on Fourth Fridays, seeks to recapture the spirit of artistic exchange that took place inside MorYork before it ceased participating in Second Saturday Gallery Night.
"We've always wanted to encourage cultural exchange, and with these bands, we still get to engender that," said gallery owner Clare Graham.
This month's artists include:
Many Distant Cities: 7:30 -- This Highland Park trio "writes jangly folk tunes about love and dying and bleeding a lot," according to Secret Songs organizer Sarah Kelly.
Princess Pangolin: 8:15 -- "Deeply influenced by folk music and Americana, Princess Pangolin strives to create dark and surreal landscapes with a 5-piece ensemble," Kelly said. You can stream her entire self-titled album on her bandcamp page.
Dorian Wood: 9 p.m. -- The Los Angeles Weekly notes that Wood's voice "inhabits a room like a choir of ghosts." His Glassellalia EP can be streamed from his bandcamp page.
Doors open at 7 p.m. The show is free and open to the public.
