Were You Rocked by Thursday's 4.3 Earthquake?

A magnitude 4.3 earthquake struck near Santa Clarita on Thursday, which is about 30 miles north of Highland Park and Mount Washington.

Update: The Southern California Earthquake Data Center has revised the magnitude of Thursday's quake to 4.2 on the Richter scale.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that a 4.3 earthquake rocked the Newhall district of Santa Clarita on Thursday afternoon, and was followed by two aftershocks.

According to the USGS, the first afterschocks of 2.0 and 2.3 were felt in San Fernando between 1:50 and 1:53 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.

The USGS reports that as of 3:40 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, only eight people in the 90042 zip code reported feeling the earthquake, while 29 in the 90065 zip code reported feeling some shaking.

Anecdotally, an informal survey on Highland Park-Mount Washington Patch's Twitter account (@HighlandPatch) turned up three responses from area residents who said they did not feel the quake.

At least two residents of the hill posted on their Facebook pages that they did feel some shaking, and one compared the quake to a "sonic boom."
