Dazzling Video of Highland Park's Unofficial Fireworks

This time-lapse video shows how Highland Park celebrates Independence Day without a sanctioned show.

Though an official Fourth of July fireworks display was hosted by Councilman José Huizar and the Los Angeles Fire Department on Sunday, July 3, Highland Park held semi-official and entirely extralegal Independence Day display of its own on the Fourth of July.

The entire show was captured in a time-lapse video and uploaded on Youtube by user ChuchofBK.

If you were out of the neighborhood on Monday evening, like me, and came home to find a pile of spent fireworks casings in your driveway--here's what you missed.

While this video is visually striking, it also raises a question about the safety of these shows. How do you feel about illegal fireworks in Highland Park? Is it all fun and games--or should the police and fire departments crack down on these illegal shows? Take our Facebook poll.

Hat tips are owed to the Eastsider L.A. and L.A. Taco for posting the video first.
