In one of the most serendipitous stories reported by any of the NELA Patch sites, a dog from Orange County initially believed to be stolen from an Eagle Rock gas station ended up under the care of a Highland Park bird store owner, who offered the pooch to an Eagle Rock octogenarian. Four months later, the 82-year-old man discovered that he had someone else's dog and returned the pet to its rightful owner—only to find himself at the center of some bizarre accusations publicized on social media.

Silver Lake Neighborhood Council Gets a Taste of Mob Democracy
The Silver Lake Neighborhood Council tied 8-8 in a vote that failed to support a motion against a proposed gang injunction targeting some 300 members of six local criminal street gangs. The vote, which caused an uproar from the audience during the council meeting, followed the previous week's 15-0 vote against gang injunctions by the Echo Park Neighborhood Council.

Eagle Rock Music Festival Will be Scaled Down This Year
The 2013 Eagle Rock Music Festival, scheduled on Oct. 5, will feature about half as many bands as the previous year, along with fewer stages and reduced hours because the festival, one of Southern California's best, "just got really big," in the words of a major organizer.

Man Charged in Stabbing Death Outside Best Western Hotel in Hollywood
Police charged a 22-year-old man who allegedly stabbed a man, evidently after an argument, outside a Best Western hotel near the Hollywood Bowl on Labor Day.
