Mount Washington Letter Carrier Helps Stamp Out Hunger

This year's letter carrier food drive was the been the best yet for local postman John Ayala.

The 20th annual National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger food drive was the "best yet," for Mount Washington postman John Ayala.

On the second Saturday of May for the last 20 years, letter carriers and  volunteers collect food donations that people have set out by their mailboxes.

"This year was amazing," said Ayala. "Letter carriers passed out bags this year, which we hadn't done in the past. I've never collected so much food. The entire back of my truck was full then there was another layer of bags on top of those. It was a lot of work, but so worth it."
