Hermon Residents to Unearth History Saturday

A time capsule buried by Franklin Students in 1985 will be unearthed on Saturday.

How much have students at changed in the last 25 years? A time capsule resting beneath the lawn of the residence at 5639 Monterey Rd. may hold the answer.

Back in 1985, the senior class of Franklin High School called themselves the “Majestics.”  Senior English class teacher Mr. Markarian assigned the “Majestics” its final project: to fill a time capsule with things that had meaning to them as seniors, living in this part of Los Angeles, attending this school at this time.

It was so that Franklin seniors a quarter of a century later could compare their interests, to see what had changed over the years, and what had remained the same. Over time memories have faded, but just a couple of the contents remembered are magazines, (including a Playboy magazine they think one of the boys threw in) and a $25 savings bond, purchased with a $1 donation from each student.

What can the Majestics teach us about Franklin High School students in 1985? Community members are invited to attend the unearthing on Saturday, April 14 at 10 a.m. at 5639 Monterey Rd. Coffee and Donuts will be provided by .
