Five Things You Need to Know Today: Feb. 7

Kickoff of the week by attending an exhibition, catching a movie, or viewing historic architecture.

1. Only two days left to catch part six of TBA: A Group Video Exhibition in 7 Parts, the current exhibition on display at Kristi Engle Gallery. Part six is viewable until Feb.8. Kristi Engle Gallery is located at 5002 York Ave. and is open daily from noon until 6 p.m. while the exhibition is showcased.

 2. The weather in Los Angeles has been beautiful lately and the sun is scheduled to shine all week. Get out and explore the 90042 by taking in some of its historic architecture. Here’s a handful of places to check out: L.A. Historic Cultural Monument 389 at 5907 Echo St.; The Fargo House, L.A. Historic Cultural Monument 464, located at 206 Thorne St.; L.A. Historic Cultural Monument 370, Herivel House and Arroyo Stone Wall sits at 4979 Sycamore Terrace.

 3. Highland Theatre has a fresh new movie lineup. Now playing is No Strings Attached with Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher, The Dilemma featuring Vince Vaughn and Kevin James and The Rite starring Anthony Hopkins. Bargain matinees are offered on a daily basis, as admission is just $4 for any show before 6 p.m. Call (323) 256-6383 for show times.

 4. There’s an abundance of Mexican restaurants in Highland Park and each one has its own flavor. The menu at El Arco Iris boasts traditional Mexican dishes along with a variety of house specials. El Arco Iris has a full-service bar and also caters. Head over to the restaurant at 5684 York Boulevard, they’re open from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Monday.

 5. In case you were unable to stop by opening weekend for the Haiti Relief Group Art Exhibition at José Vera Gallery in Eagle Rock, drop in today. Featured artwork in various forms of media from international artists will be on display. The exhibit benefits the people of Haiti. The gallery will also host fundraising events and will accept donations on behalf of organizations assisting Haitians. José Vera Gallery is open from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m and is located at 2012 Eagle Rock Blvd.
