Arroyo Seco Library Participates in Cal-Reads

A slate of events are scheduled throughout the month of July, providing locals an opportunity to participate in the Statewide program.

The in Highland Park has prepared a slate of programs to engage locals in Cal-Reads, a statewide program developed by the California Center for the Book and the California State Library with the mission of using five diverse books to encourage community discussion around a single topic.

This month's topic is Searching for Democracy and the five selected books revolve around that broad theme while addressing slightly different topics.

The Arroyo Seco Library will focus on Rebecca Solnit's A Paradise Built in Hell: The Extraordinary Communities That Arise in Disaster. In Paradise, a nonfiction narrative, Solnit reports on how communities rely on how the democratic process helps communities recover from catastrophic events.
