It was a tight race for a little while, but eventually claimed the distinction of Highland Park-Mount Washington Patch's favorite coffee house in our recent Reader's Choice poll.
Maybe it's because they're located in Cypress Park--a neutral territory where Highland Park and Mount Washington residents can gather before work to fuel up on fair trade coffee--that Antigua was able to rally the most support.
Or, as Patch reader Frank M. put it, maybe it's their commitment to serving the neighborhood.
"Antigua Cultural Coffeehouse not only brews up coffee but also local community involvement," Frank commented.
"Antigua Coffee has been a big influence in developing the Figueroa street corridor in Cypress Park," added user Gilbert.
Antigua took home the prize with 85 of 168 total votes.
Coming in second place was York Boulevard's , which received 49 votes and some kind words from user ChickenBoyFan: "[Owner] Matt Schodorf sees a bigger picture, always, in everything. Fair Trade means that the coffee grower did not get ripped off. His profit was commensurate with what the beans are actually vended for in the retail market. The coffee at Cafe de Leche tastes like delicious equality."
As commenter Tracy King said, "Antigua Cultural Coffee Shop and Cafe de Leche. Don't make me choose, they are both great in their own ways!"
However, you did choose, all one 168 of you. Thanks to your participation, we can proudly proclaim Antigua Cultural Coffee House the "Best of Patch."
