After 17 Years on York, a Family is Calling it Quits

The 4-member Hernandez family has watched the transformation of York Boulevard but can't afford to live there anymore.

It’s not every day that readers come across a story about a Highland Park family that has lived in the neighborhood for the past three decades or so—about half of that period in a rented bungalow overlooking York Boulevard from where members of the family have witnessed first-hand the amazing transformation of the commercial corridor from a gang-infested to hipster-rich area.

But, as the Eastsider L.A. tells it, the Hernandez family is calling it a day. Their $875-per-month abode on the 5900 block of York is for sale—and the four-member family hopes to move to an accommodation that doesn’t need as much work and where street parking isn’t a perennial problem.
