Mark your calendars: The Kiwanis Club of Highland Park is scheduled to hold its weekly board meeting on Thursday, Jan. 23. The Kiwanis will meet as usual at Milo Terrace Baptist Church Community Room, 754 N. Avenue 50, from noon to 1:30 p.m. The meeting is free; lunch is $5 at the door. As always, attendees are encouraged to bring their ideas for a better Highland Park.

2. Friends of Mount Washington Elementary School Casino Night

Mark your calendars: The Friends of Mount Washington School is organizing its first-ever fundraising casino night on Friday, Jan. 24, at the historic Alamo Building, located on 6401 Ruby St. The event starts at 6 p.m. and ends at 10 a.m. Tickets are $35 per person or $60 a couple. In addition to blackjack, roulette, craps and other games, the casino night includes two VIP poker tournaments limited to only 20 players.
