5 Things to Know Today: NC Survey, Live Music, Summer Soda Tasting

Your guide to the weekend.

1. Neighborhood Council Survey

The Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council is one of the most engaged local councils in Northeast L.A.—and its members are working hard to make it even more responsive to the needs of residents. A citywide effort to seek public input for improving the NC system is currently underway, but according to a blog by HHPNC member Hector Huezo on Highland Park-Mount Washington Patch, only four of the 110 stakeholders who have taken the survey across L.A. are from Highland Park. Long story short, you need to step up, spare a few minutes of your time, and complete the survey, which can be accessed here:

2. Live music at Pop Hop

Get a taste of the melodic music and singing that solo pianist and singer/songwriter Stephanie Rearick Jr. seemingly produces without much effort. She'll be on tonight—free—starting at 7 p.m. at Pop Hop Books & Prints, 5002 York Blvd., (323) 259-2950.

3. Get ready for summer soda tasting at Galco's

Galco’s Third Annual Summer Soda Tasting is scheduled this coming Sunday at Galco’s Soda Pop Stop, on 5702 York Blvd. All proceeds from the event will go to the Friends of the Southwest Museum Coalition, which is devoted to keeping the treasures of the Southwest Museum within the community. Call Stan Moore at (323) 256-1024 to register as a volunteer.
