hit send too soon. why do they have this scheduled as the same day as the HP Farmer's Market? The community doesn't support the market enough as it is - so everyone is going to go chase food trucks> what happens when the fad dies? the farmers will have packed up and left for good. yay for fun stuff in the hood but why can't they host this on a monday or a wednesday? or even a weekend? i support the market every single week but i can't do it alone people. and we all know ost people will pick 1 event or the other to attend.

Sarah, drop FigPro a line and ask them. They could start it later and it wouldn't conflict so much. I bet they'd be happy to do it. Wednesday night would work too. Most of the people arrive well after the market has wrapped up anyway.

Here's another question - why is the Farmers market on a weekday afternoon? It's sparsely attended because everyone is at work or stuck in traffic for most of it- not because all the residents of 90042 have something more trendy to do. I'd patronize it every week if I could. The times I have made it in time, half of the market is getting packed up.

If the organizers of the market were smart, they'd book a couple of the same trucks. They could work the market during the afternoon, drive a couple blocks and set up for dinner at FigPro.

Your "fad" remark makes me think that you'd resent the trucks' presence even if the event was held on another day. They've been dismissed as a fad for years now.

But wednesday would be a great compromise. Why can't HP have two cool things to do two nights in a row every week?

I'm with Sarah and Sweaty. I was bummed that it's on Tuesday's as well, because I'm always afraid that our beloved little market is going to be no longer. I've already watched many good vendors give up on our market, and will even less attendance, it doesn't stand a chance. A change of date for the market might help too, and unfortunately, a change of location.
From what I understand, the only night the food trucks can do it (or Fig Produce, not sure which) is Tuesday, which is a major bummer. Teaming the 2 up would be pretty awesome, but I wonder how the food vendors from the market would feel. I know food trucks wouldn't sway my allegiance to the Blazing Grill, and I bet the produce vendors would see some sales from the food truck foodies.
There's got to be a solution here that doesn't involve choosing one or the other. I want both of these things in my neighborhood!

There are 6 other days in the week why can't fig produce pick another day for their food truck fest. I love a good food truck as much as the next gal - but I do think some of the food trucks are 'trendy'. Some will stay around for a long time, but I don't think most can or will. Only a fraction of the food trucks are worth purchasing anything from. Most are jumping on the 'band wagon'. I'm a purist though, I prefer the no name taco truck on the corner. I'm worried like Sarah, that once the novelty has worn off the farmer's business will have dropped so low they will disappear. That said i want BOTH events in Highland Park. Just on different days. Lots of farmer's markets take place during the day Sweatywest. Although you make a good point about it being later. maybe 4-8 would work better? Not sure what the answer is except right now the food truck fest at fig produce is killing the farmer's business at the HP farmer's market. We have to support our local farmer's market, it's so vitally important to our community! What should we all do? We all clearly have a passion for the neighborhood.

We don't eat prepared food at the market, so its not a real big conflict for us. We get our fruits and veggies, take a quick spin in the bounce house and we're off to the food trucks. We LOVE the 5:30 start for truck dining. Bedtime for wee ones is religiously 7:30. If it starts later, then all the young families I saw at 5:30/6 wouldn't attend. Another day would also work, but we love the early start either way.

The farmer's market needs to be on the weekend. Atwater has their market on the weekend and it's always packed with people.People can't attend the farmer's market because they have work. They really should evaluate their strategy.

I would attend the Farmer's Market if it were on a Saturday or Sunday. Because of work, I'm never able to attend on a weekday. I agree it should be changed.
