THANK YOU Carl, for bringing awareness to this very important issue. Westboro Baptist is not aRead More danger to anyone, truly. The mentality of Rick Warren and Saddleback Church, however, IS a danger. He puts a "pretty face" on the infliction of harm on people created in God's image. The sad thing is that many good people of Orange County and even around the world have put their faith in this man who inflicts so much harm on the LGBTQ community. Just ask the LGBTQ people in Uganda and Russia. A brother to Franklin Graham; a shame to Billy Graham.

Parent Skill Number 1: Don't send your kids to poor performing schools (because poor performingRead More peers/students) like what are in most of the LAUSD.
Ziegler April 20, 2014 at 04:23 pm
The layout of the grammer school makes a difference in what the child is exposed to and learns.Read More That sounds inconceivable but whan they made the decision to put the children is separate bungalows with just one teacher all day it meant that they would not be exposed to specialist teachers such as literature, art, and music appreciation until they get to Jr. High School. I grew up during the great depression. Most assuredly there was no excess money for education, yet we had a gym teacher, we received instructions in drawing and painting, and we listened to classical records in our one day a week music class - because we walked to the specialist teachers classroom. Getting instruction in the humanities costs no more than sitting all day with the same teacher. It is the number of classroom hours spent per week that counts. The Superintendant does not have to hire more teachers, he hires specialists who excite and stimulate the kids in the subject that they themselves love so much. When the child gets a singlr teacheer who teaches math, English, history, etc. that teacher is bound to not be too good at some of the myriad subjects. If we could expose kids tothe very best at the hight of the depression we can do better by them than to have them sit on their behinds all day with someone who is a master of some and a bore at all.

Ziegler April 20, 2014 at 04:06 AM "Karl has not blamed teachers and in fact he laments thatRead More Parents are ignored especially the Parents who want the besat for their kids. Over all the teachers are very much respected." ________________________________________________________ I think that the current tenure system is an insult to great teachers. The first special education classroom that I witnessed for my daughters did little more than babysit them. We were told that they were doing all they could for them and that they were meeting all of the goals of their IEP. Their next teacher was still taking classes towards her masters degree and was excited to try new things. My daughters made amazing progress. ____________________________________________________ When the LAUSD was forced to lay off teachers, do you want to guess which one lost her Special Education assignment? Instead she was assigned to a kindergarten classroom. What a waste of a special talent!

I wouldn't live in any other country, but it is incredibly immature and ignorant to not realize thatRead More we have a laundry list of things to improve. Blind faith and devotion with that "we are #1" attitude without rational thought might be what all governments (and religions) would like to have, but as far as being a citizen and member of humanity goes it is your duty to use your brain....
Just Tim April 19, 2014 at 11:11 am
Jeffe", the reason I pointed out that we are leading in most categories is simple. We actuallyRead More put our dirty laundry right out in the open. No other country is willing or in some cases allowed to do that. In some places, they aren't even allowed to think about doing that. I do agree with most of your laundry list, but compared to any other place, it ain't all bad. That my friend is using our brains. Which also means at times using our brawn to protect us from those who use their brain for less good.

This is how it works. If I get my fondest wish, I will not serve out the complete two year term ifRead More elected. If I get my prayer answered my grandmother will be home, and I will be by her side every minute of the day until God parts us naturally. I won't have time for HHPNC duties. So, whoever is 1st Vice Pres. will have to take over, whether it is Stan or Aaron. That means if you want your choice for 1st Vice to step up after I leave, you will have to vote for me as the next HHPNC President to have a chance to do just that. Just a thought... and I get to close the Bank Building deal that is as good as done. H.P. gets their City Hall, I get my grandmother and life back, and everyone is happy. Fair enough?

"Should anyone also be allowed to lead it?" Good one! That would depend upon the group'sRead More members. If the group's charter is advocacy, and the NAACP is a private organization, then its bylaws will dictate who can be a leader. If it wants to be taken seriously, then it'll pick the best candidate to lead, and its influence and advocacy will be potent if it is not a sham. It'd be rather impossible, for example, a Muslim to head the Vatican, than it'd be for a white to lead the NAACP. I'd think that fundamental commitment to the cause would prohibit the former, but not the latter. Your larger point makes one think. Would the Klan accept a black Jew, for example, as its Imperial Wizard? The more insular the group, the less sense it makes to have an 'outsider' no matter how committed the person may be to the cause.
Status Quo April 8, 2014 at 05:38 pm

LOL CHICKEN BOY FAN! Why defender of Mr. Slater et al? what took you so long to show up? andRead More anonymously as well! To be expected I suppose. But you really don't know wtf you are talking about. I am not a liar, and the facts are as I have stated. If you have evidence to the contrary then by all means present it. Why don't you address any of the problems I have inventoried above? why don't you comment on any of my proposals? because your only agenda is to tear me down. well, sir, or madam, or whatever, as the case may be, some people don't deserve to be taken seriously. You are one of them
El Cid March 12, 2014 at 10:42 pm
So true Chicken Boy Fan!!! That's why we need candidates to run for HHPNC; so that we have choices.Read More The new deadline to sign up has been extended to Wednesday, March 19th. There will be an informational workshop/meeting at the Arroyo Seco Library this Monday, March 17 between 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. to answer questions and address concerns for potential candidates. We need stakeholders of Highland Park to consider running for office. Highland Park has made tremendous strides....we need candidates who want to continue the positive course.
Margarito Martinez March 13, 2014 at 02:04 pm
The positive course! LOL! So now El Cid (didn't you say you a are a Mom? 5'8" ? That's a bigRead More mother alright! But now of course your true colors come out. You are just Anti-MOG. No matter what I purpose, or where I am coming from, you will ALWAYS BE ANTI-MOG. That's OK. Because I am not appealing to you. I am appealing to people like Diego R. Silva, who is running for 2nd Vice President. People who can leave the petty politics of skunks (yes skunk! He stinks! He is just plain bug eyed weird to boot!) like Harvey Slater in the trash where they belong! I bring up Diego R. Silva because he, like I, can see that Progress Must Come To Highland Park! The FUTURE IS NOW! We can offered two more years of Monica's style of leadership. Which, frankly leaves much to be desired in terms of vision. What people like Diego and myself bring is Vision! What people like Harvey and his ilk is division. What people like Monica bring is stagnation, and as I say, much to desired. If you know all this about the elections, it's because you were at last night's election's committee meeting. Not because of the outreach efforts of the HHPNC. Which have been incredibly self-serving, propaganda and little else. And if you were at that meeting, then you now that the HHPNC is considering spending over 3000.00 dollars for mailers reaching over 14,000 households. Last time I checked H.P. population was well over 50,000. We had less votes last election than in year's previous. Our current HHPNC goal is to have little over 500 votes cast in this year's election. I think we can do better. I think Highland Park can do better and deserves better. That's why I am running to be the next president of the HHPNC.

Just for you Christie nicolle: The date of Easter is not fixed, but instead is governed by theRead More phases of the moon – how pagan is that? All the fun things about Easter are pagan. Bunnies are a leftover from the pagan festival of Eostre, a great northern goddess whose symbol was a rabbit or hare. Exchange of eggs is an ancient custom, celebrated by many cultures. Hot cross buns are very ancient too. In the Old Testament we see the Israelites baking sweet buns for an idol, and religious leaders trying to put a stop to it. The early church clergy also tried to put a stop to sacred cakes being baked at Easter. In the end, in the face of defiant cake-baking pagan women, they gave up and blessed the cake instead. Easter is essentially a pagan festival which is celebrated with cards, gifts and novelty Easter products, because it's fun and the ancient symbolism still works. The main symbol of the goddess Eostra was a rabbit because of its awesome fertility. Eggs, another ancient symbol of fertility, were dyed to symbolize the colors of spring. So it's really Pagan sex day.
