Victim Identified in Marmion Way Shooting

One man was killed near the corner of Marmion Way and Avenue 59 early Monday morning.

Police have identified the man shot and killed near the corner of Avenue 59 and Marmion Way early Monday morning as 26-year-old Israel Cervantes.

Detective Jose Carillo of LAPD's Homicide Division said officers are still investigating the shooting, but declined to release any further information about the incident that took place at around 2:10 a.m. near the Highland Park Gold Line Station.

The shooting is not believed to be gang related, said Detective Rick Ortiz of the LAPD Northeast Gang Unit.

Police learned of shooting after receiving several calls from people who heard the gunfire and one who saw it, said Sgt. M. Campbell of the Los Angeles Police Department's Northeast Station.

Cervantes was transported to the hospital by paramedics, where he died as a result of his wounds, according to ABC 7.
