Photo Gallery: Highland Park Celebrates Memorial Day

A strong showing of community members gathered at the Highland Park Veterans Memorial on Sunday to celebrate Memorial Day.

Highland Park's Veterans Square Memorial on Monday was filled with about 100 neighborhood residents, all of whom gathered to participate in a Memorial Day celebration hosted by local American Legion Post 206.

The celebration featured demonstrations by the Junior ROTC and Post 206's Honor and Colors Team, the singing of the national anthem by Franklin student Genesee Hall, and numerous addresses from members of the Armed Services.

Those who attended this year's event remarked that it was one of the most well attended Memorial Day services the neighborhood had seen in years.

"Last year we only had about 20 people gathered in this square," said Richard Marquez of the Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council. "I'm satisfied with the turnout, it looks great."
