One Arrested for Shooting Gun from Mercedes

The early morning shooting spree took place near Avenue 63 and North Figueroa Street.

LAPD officers arrested a man at around 7 am on Wednesday morning after he allegedly fired several rounds from a small caliber handgun from inside moving Mercedes Benz near North Figueroa Street and Avenue 63.

Nobody was injured.

Detective Richard Ortiz of the LAPD Northeast Gang Unit said the shooter was a passenger in the vehicle, which was being driven by a friend who did not live in the neighborhood.

According to Ortiz, the driver picked up the alleged shooter near a dwelling on La Prada Street. He said there were four other passengers in the car, not including the driver and shooter.

The shooter allegedly fired several rounds before getting in the car, Ortiz said, which prompted nearby residents to alert the police.

"The friends were out all night partying and they came to pick up the friend," Ortiz said. "He started shooting from the window near Avenue 63 and the friends took the gun."

An area resident told Patch that two neighbors had bullet holes in their cars as a result of the shooting.

Officers stopped the vehicle near Avenue 63 and arrested the shooter on charges of discharging a firearm in public. Another passenger in the car was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

The incident is being investigated by LAPD Northeast's Crimes Against Persons desk. As of Wednesday afternoon, no officers were on hand to provide more details about the shooter.
