Man Stabbed While Walking on Aldama Street Sunday

Police believe both the suspect and victim have gang ties.

A man in his mid-20s was stabbed during an altercation with five suspects while walking near the corner of Aldama and Avenue 50 early Sunday morning, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

"The victim said he was walking down the street at around 1:15 a.m. when a car drove past him. He said he yelled something at the car along the lines of 'Hey, slow down,' and then the driver of the car pulled over, and five guys got out and attacked him," said Det. Rick Ortiz of the Northeast LAPD gang unit.

The victim sustained one stab wound in the altercation, Det. Ortiz said. He was expected to recover from his non-life-threatening wound.

Det. Ortiz said that police believe all five suspects, as well as the victim, are members of local gangs.

He said the victim was "very vague" in his interview with police, declining to describe his alleged assailants beyond a general age range--mid-20s.

The vehicle was only described as a being "white and tan" and no make or model was provided, Det. Ortiz said.

"It's typical," Ortiz said. "Anyone affiliated with a gang is very unwilling to cooperate with police investigations."

Asked if police were likely to make an arrest in the case, Ortiz said, "It all depends on the victim and whether he is willing to cooperate."
