An elderly driver from Malibu was reunited with his family after becoming lost and wound up in Highland Park.
The 81-year-old driver was found by LAPD officers near the intersection of North Figueroa Sttreet and York Boulevad around 8 a.m., according to Sergeant Edward Perez of the Northeast Community Station. The driver seemed confused and lost when he was found, according to police.
The driver reportedly left his home in Malibu around 6 or 7 a.m. and wanted to get a cup of coffee.
"He wound up driving all the way out here to our Highland Park area, totally lost," Perez said.
The family contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Malibu/Lost Hills Station, where deputies worked to ping the man's cell phone and located him in the Highland Park area within 20 minutes of being notified. The Northeast Community Station was informed of the driver's location. The man was found parked near an area store.
Deputies escorted the man's family and all were reunited. It was not known if the elderly driver suffers from any medical condition.
