Update: LAPD Says No Evidence of Hit and Run in Cycling Death
Signs asking for more information about the death of cyclist Jean Carlos Galaviz suggest that he was killed by a hit and run driver. LAPD says there is no evidence of any foul play.
A 34-year-old bicyclist died from injuries he suffered Sunday ter he crashed his bike and landed on a hillside, police said.
The fatal accident occurred around 4 a.m. on Canon Crest Drive near Avenue 45, said Officer Cleon Joseph of the Los Angeles Police Department.
The victim, identified as Jean Carlos Galaviz of Los Angeles, was riding his bicycle southbound and, on a turn in the roadway, crashed into the curb, Joseph said.
"The impact from this collision caused Galaviz to be launched in a
southeast direction where he collided with the hillside,'' Joseph continued.

Galaviz, gravely injured from the crash, was taken to County/USC Medical
Center where he later died from his injuries, Joseph said.
No other vehicles or cyclists were involved in the crash.
According to some Mount Washington residents, on Tuesday signs had been placed in the area claiming that Galaviz had been killed as the result of a hit and run.

Officer David Chung of LAPD's Central Traffic Division said there was no evidence as of Wednesday afternoon indicating that the accident was caused by a hit and run driver.
However, Chung said that officers from the Central Traffic Division were continuing to interview to Galaviz's family, and that the department's classification of the death could change.
