City to Host Bike Lane Meeting Wednesday

New bike lanes on North Figueroa and Colorado are scheduled to be installed in the first year of the plan.

More than a year-and-a-half after approving an overarching bicycle master plan for the city of Los Angeles, city planning officials will begin conversations with residents about how to implement 1,302 miles of new bicycle ways promised in the planning document.

The City of Los Angeles' Department of City Planning will be hosting a Scoping Meeting on Wednesday, July 18th to solicit feedback on the implementation of the first year of the LA Department of Transportation's 2010 Bicycle Plan.

Projects located in Northeast Los Angeles that are targeted for implementation during the first year include N. Figueroa Street between San Fernando Road and Colorado Boulevard, and Colorado Boulevard between the Glendale City limit and Avenue 64.

The 1,302 new miles of bicycle ways called for in the plan will be divided among a three different types of networks: 707 miles of painted backbone bikeways, 834 miles of bicycle friendly neighborhoods and a 139 mile green network, which seeks to improve access to bicycle paths and shared access paths as well as to the city’s green, open spaces and river channels.

The master plan calls for the bicycle network to be implemented over the course of five years, with priorities guided by the City's existing Bicycle Advisory Committee and the recently committed Bike Plan Implementation Team.
