La Tierra de La Culebra Seeks Match Funds

La Tierra de la Culebra Park, an urban oasis nestled between North Figueroa Street and the Arroyo Seco Parkway on Avenue 57, is seeking donations to help expand their educational programs.

The directors of the park recently launched a campaign on IndieGoGo.com, asking community members to help them raise $19,000 in order to match a grant tentatively promised by the County of Los Angeles.

"The County of Los Angeles has offered to reward our efforts with a grant of $19,000. Our task is to raise a matching amount so that we can expand music and arts programming, create permaculture demonstration gardens, and further develop on-site internships for local youth," explained La Tierra de la Culebra Director Nathan Green.

For more than 20 years, the nonprofit organization ArtCorps L.A. (ACLA) has served as stewards of the property on Avenue 57, transforming the once blighted area into a base for educational programs and cultural events.

The newly launched campaign has raised $200 so far, and has 35 more days to meet the $19,000 goal.

To boost the campaign La Tierra de la Culebra is offering several rewards for donars, ranging from a Facebook and Twitter shout-out for $5 to screen prints of artwork created by park found, Tricia Ward.
